Major Projects
3★Projects
Tournated - Built core backend systems for a production white-label SaaS sports platform deployed across 15–20 countries including China, powering tournament and league management for governing bodies, clubs, and athletes globally. Optimized critical API endpoints reducing response times from 1000ms to under 200ms (80% reduction) through query optimization and database schema restructuring for scale. Implemented AWS SNS push notifications and Stripe webhook integration for payment processing, subscription lifecycle management, and real-time event alerts. Migrated legacy APIs to modern NestJS architecture, improving maintainability and long-term scalability of the backend codebase.
PicMe - Developed frontend and core backend features for a global photographer booking marketplace serving 5,000+ users across 3–4 countries, connecting clients with photographers for events, travel, and weddings. Built end-to-end booking flow with Stripe payment integration, webhook handling for transaction validation, subscription lifecycle management, and failure recovery flows. Developed REST API integrations and React frontend for photographer availability, pricing management, and real-time booking confirmation across mobile and web clients.
Mental Edge - Built the frontend from scratch for an AI-powered emotional analytics platform analyzing facial micro-expressions in real time, serving coaches, healthcare providers, and business leaders. Developed real-time video UI using WebRTC and WebSockets alongside interactive Highcharts dashboards visualizing emotional patterns and cognitive performance metrics for end users. Delivered as a cross-platform Electron desktop application running consistently across Windows and macOS.

From the AI interview

How Asad Ahmad talks about the work, from the spoken round of the AI interview and the written answers alongside it.

I led the migration of our legacy API to a new NestJS architecture while ensuring zero downtime for 50,000 live users. I broke the project into phases, tested each with real traffic patterns, and maintained close communication with all teams involved. The migration was successful, reducing response times from 1000ms to under 200ms.
While designing a multi-tenant auth system, collaboration was crucial across backend, frontend, and tenant roles. I kept communication open through daily standups and Slack, ensuring everyone understood not just what we were building but why. This approach helped avoid assumptions and fostered effective teamwork.
In a high-pressure situation with a critical API endpoint slowing down the app, I prioritized fixing the query bottleneck instead of rebuilding everything. This targeted fix brought response times back under control within hours, preventing a larger outage and maintaining system stability.
I focus on building judgment in junior engineers by encouraging them to research and propose solutions. At Spadasoft, I guided a new engineer through GraphQL schema design, allowing him to make decisions with my support. Within months, he was independently designing schemas and catching issues early, which was a win for both of us.
REST is simpler and easier to cache and maintain, while GraphQL offers more flexibility by allowing precise data requests. GraphQL can reduce over-fetching but adds complexity around query performance.
I'd use microservices to scale different parts of a SaaS product independently and keep services isolated. A monolith is simpler to build and deploy, but microservices facilitate scaling and team ownership as the product grows. The downside is increased complexity in deployment, networking, and monitoring.
